never trust anyting that big with a mind of its own... I always say lol...t
You might have to smack him back, and not a love pat. Tie him up, or have someone hold him. Be calm, he can tell you are nervous or scared and he will react to that as well. Be the boss, he is trying to boss you. Walk very close to him when you do go behind him. If you walk around him, where you are actually leaning on him, or rubbing against him as you walk around him, if he kicks, it will feel more like a push, and then tell him no with a smack. Start up by his head and lean into him, scratching and rubbing on him, as you move down his side pay attention to what he is telling you. When he stiffens up as you move back, stop moving and rub and scratch on that area until he relaxes. When he relaxes go further back. When you do get to his tail area, be sure to scratch and rub back there as well and tug on his tail and talk to him and praise him. If you are still to scared to do this, sell him and get an older horse ,or send him to a trainer. If your horse intimidates you, then he's not that animal for you and that spells disaster for both of you.
Well he is a colt and he is probably getting old enough to where he is wanting to test you. Plus he is getting his stud attutide. But you should try putting a halter on him and have someone hold him and wrap a lead rope around his back leg. Then lift it so he will get used to lifting it. Only wrap it one time so if he tries walking off or something it will come right off. This doesn't cause him any pain or hurt him in any way. Try doing this for at least 10 minutes everyday. Also young horses have to be handled everyday or they will just ignore you. But you also have to think about him getting more aggresive because he is a colt. He could just be really tempermental %26 you might have to have him gelded. But try this and see how it goes. I hope I have helped you a little!
He's not even a year old, he's rebelling. As with a todlar, he's testing his limits. Don't be afraid to show him whose boss, if not, he'll be bossing you around. Also, you said when you touch his rear, make sure he knows your there. He could be scared, or not knowing you were there. But like i said, you need to train them and break the habbit of him kicking. Good Luck =]
