Please help.there's something wrong with my rabbit?

just a few days ago, my rabbit ears started to fade away. Her ears use to be dark black, and a few days later her ear colors is fadding away into gray...she has spot of black and spot of gray. what is happending to her?
Answers:
1. Is he active?
2. Does he eat and drink normally?
3. Are his ears erect and alert?
4. Are his eyes bright and shiny (not dull)?
If you answer yes to all these questions, he is fine. It's just that his fur color is changing. My bunny used to turn brown in the summer.
Nothing! My rabbits ears and feet did the same thing, all its doing is converting a summer coat to winter. By nature rabbits had to change their fur color to blend in w/ the enviorment so they wouldn't get eatin. And well as summer changes to winter so must their fur. hope this helped.
I know you're going to hate me for saying this, but take her to the vet! People on petqna.com s aren't going to be able to diagnose your rabbit over the internet. I'm sorry that I couldn't help, but I know for sure that the vet can, so get a parent or friend to take you there as soon as you can.

Please help!my hammy is suffering from fur lost!is its life in danger?

no going to the vets advise.....i am desperate!
Answers:

I have a virtual pet website and I need to get pets on it so here is my question..
What is the software that Neopets Marapets and leekopets use to make there pets??
Answers:
What do you mean by "make" their pets? Do you mean how they draw the images for the pets?
If that's what you're talking about, then the program you want is Adobe Illustrator. It's not the easiest program to learn but it'll give you the results you want once you get it figured out.
You can download a free trial and purchase the software at Adobe's website: http://adobe.com
no idea, I think you need a disc

the best thing to do is stop worrying lol, you know the horses r gonna pick up on it.
If you can get some bachs rescue remedy (its a herbal calmer) and take it as often as you need to (following printed instructions of course)
Secondly just give it your best and treat it like any other day (easier said then done i know) and be safe in the knowledge whatever happens it's all experience and you and the horses tried their best.
Good Luck Alex, i'll keep my fingers crossed.
PS don't push too hard in the warming up, just take it easy
i dont understand ur question its very confusing can u re-word it
just tell yourself that you can do it!! and dont worry.
Nerves are just part of it - we all suffer from them! Make sure you are well prepared and you have loads of time to get them ready. At least you know both the ponies and by this time tomorrow it will all be over. Try some positive thinking.eg " I am going to ride to the best of my ability and get pony 1 over all the fillers" and "I will warm up both the ponies so they are really listening to me and jumping well"
I find my nerves disappear when I get on my horse so I hope yours do too... don't look at and worry about other people.. often the ones that look fantastic in the warm-up have 3 refusals at the first fence!
Good luck and don't forget to enjoy yourself.
i will help you
Be positive. Clear your mind. Remember a horse can sense your fears and worries!!
Try Bach Flower Remedies (and read the series Heartland if you haven't already)
here are some which i think are suitable for you:
( i got the information of this website ages ago)
Fear Group
Cherry Plum
Rock Rose
Red Chestnut
Aspen
Mimulus
Uncertainty Group
Cerato
Gorse
Gentian
Hornbeam
Scleranthus
Wild Oat
Aspen - For unknown fears, vague fears and apprehension, perhaps unable to express fears of spirit/psychic/ strange places, etc. Anxious of coming events. Shakiness or fluttering tummy. Very useful for children with fears of dark, also agoraphobia. Aspen brings relief from these uneasy feelings.
Cerato - This essence helps those who lack faith in their own judgement and who look for the opinions of others when decisions are necessary. Unable to listen to their "inner voice" or nature. Cerato removes the blockage between the higher self and the mind, enabling them always to be guided correctly.
Cherry Plum - For fear of losing control of the mind/nervous breakdown. Snappy, on edge, wanting to scream or be violent, either to self or others. Saying things completely out of character, but unable to stop oneself. Irrational behaviour. Many women experience these negative traits during PMT. Characterised in the acute negative state by wide, staring eyes. Cherry Plum brings calmness, control and peace.
Gentian - For those lacking in faith, whether in themselves or the Creator. This lack bringing the mental state of becoming disappointed at setbacks. A known depression. "Doubting Thomas" type, or those never having found their spiritual being. Gentian brings the ability to see that all things are working to the right end thereby taking away the dejection.
Gorse - Deep hopelessness, sadness, often suffered by those with long term illness. If this negative state has taken root there may be dark rings under the eyes. As Gorse is taken so the darkness will change to light.
Hornbeam - For those taking a long time to "come round" when waking, still tired after a good nights sleep. Usually a kind of mental/boredom tiredness, the kind you often get after a day spent doing nothing, bringing on a feeling of procrastination. Do not confuse with Wild Rose. Hornbeam refreshes the mind.
Mimulus - For all known fears, fear of lifts, heights, spiders, water, etc., fear of anything material. Those needing this essence may be timid, shy, nervous, sensitive to crowds, loud noises, bright lights; they may stammer or blush easily. As Mimulus is taken, so they will become courageous and these negative states will fade away.
Red Chestnut - For those always fearing and worrying for others, always fearing the worst; if one of the family are late home "they must have had an accident". Often no fear for themselves. As Red Chestnut is taken these negative fears turn to positive optimism.
Rock Rose - Terror, keen fear or blind panic. Useful for those suffering from nightmares, panic attacks. Give to the helpers as well as the sufferer in extremely fearful situations, as strong negative vibrations spread to those around, hindering their work.
Scleranthus - Unable to choose between two things. Indecision. Weighing things up they will urn %26 ah, taking a long time to reach a decision. All of this has to do with balance, so in the negative state can cause stumbling, shakiness, vertigo, mood swings, etc. This essence brings an inner balance and a decisive character.
Wild Oat - For those unable to see their true path in life, wishing to find the vocation right for them. Each person is put on earth to serve a Divine purpose; something which will come easily and naturally to them and which they will enjoy doing above all else. This essence will help them to see the right path.

PLEASE HELP!! - How do i tell if my mare needs shoes?

I just bought a Danish WB mare about a month ago and she was shod only in front when we bought her. She threw a shoe about a week and a half ago and the farrier hasn't come to the barn yet. I hate bothering with shoes and would much rather her be barefoot. I do mostly dressage with her and a tiny bit of jumping. I ride her pretty much everyday. Can someone tell me if she should have shoes on or not? Thanks.
Answers:
Agreed, it's hard to tell if she needs shoes without seeing her in person.
A lost shoe is something of an emergency, you need to have your farrier out ASAP.
You can try her without shoes this time and just a good trim, and see how she does. A lot of times horses do just as well or better without shoes as they do with, especially since it sounds like you're only working her on softer surfaces.
Maybe have a FARRIER come out and look at her!! They would know!! Are you waiting for them to come for a routine call?? Call and get them out sooner! People here cannot see your horse!
my mare came shod but we wanted to go barefoot. do you do much roadwork, that wears feet. working on soft surfaces is fine for hooves. i would ask your farrier but a good indication if wether r not your mares feet are strong enough is if they crack often or are really soft. they could get worn too fast. there are boots you could get to protect soft feet with no shoes. my mums tb wore them when hacking as his hooves couldnt keep shoes. called boa boots...clip on!

Please Help! My hamsters eye is popping out!?

i don't know what to do it is midnight and i was just checking on my hamster and her one eye is bulging out her head! what can i do for her! why is this happening? please help.
Answers:
Don't panick. Keep the hamster from scrathing at it, it could turn a bad situation ugly. Try holding her and petting her but do not touch her eye. Call a local emergency vet office near you. (If you don't have one, google, vet offices near _____ , and enter your town in the blank. Call one of the vet offices and on their answering machine, they will give you a number for a 24 hour clinic, call them and they can tell you what to do next, the biggest thing is to keep her from scrating it, if they are able to save the eye- it does no good if it's scrathed. Let me know how it goes.

Please help me, my rabbit died of flystrike and i want some advice, vets please help?

read my other question and you will see.
my problem now is that i just cant stop crying, i feel like its all my fault and im worried about how much pain he would of been in, please if you no let me no if he would of been in a lot of pain or if he would of gone into shock? i just feel so down about losing him esp the way he went, and i with a 8 month old i am finding life very hard at the moment, some people may think its just a rabbit but i am a massive animal lover and i this is the worst i have ever felt over a death of a animal, i feel to blame, and i feel soo miserable.
Answers:
Ohhh, I'm so sorry. Well, your first question, about how much pain he was in...he wasn't. Rabbit's central nervous systems shut down all pain mechanisms, (this is due to the "fight or flight" response. that protects them from pain when they are captured in the wild...this is why it's very hard to help a wild rabbit, that is injured or one found as an infant.) Fly strike is rare in house animals, but not unheard of...Did you keep your rabbit outside near a creek or wooded area? In the future, keep the rabbits indoors on a porch. Good luck! Please, try not to feel so badly, but, I know It's so hard when you lose a pet.
http://www.rabbit.org/journal/2-12/fly-s...
It's not easy losing a family pet no matter what it is. The simple truth is, that the poor Rabbit required more attention than you could give it.
This year has been especially bad for flies, and with rabbits being fairly dirty (messing everywhere) the flies will strike, and kill rabbits that are not cleaned evry other day in the summer.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Flystrike is a horrible way to go, but honestly, it happens. It's unfortunate you were unable to do anything, but the thing with flystrike is that you have to catch it right away to really be able to do anything, anyhow. So...don't be so hard on yourself. You live, and you learn. It's highly likely that your rabbit went into shock, and then after that point slipped away.
I'm sorry I can't answer your question because I don't know the answer, but don't be too hard on yourself, you're obviously a really caring person with a big heart and even the best kept bunny can be afflicted. Even if it does turn out he was in pain as he died, I'm sure he had an incredibly happy life before then.
we had a rabbit with the same problem,he passed away within hours of going to vets, didn't seem to be in any pain but i was devastated. we had new rabbit and he was cleaned out every day, also we put a piece of net curtain over the hutch so flies couldn't get in, we did this throughout the hot weather and that rabbit died of old age.get yourself another pet, it won't be a replacement but will allow you to move on.
I know how you feel. I have lost sheep to fly strike and I feel so guilty, feeling I should have noticed straight away etc.
I dont know alot about rabbits but theres nothing you can do about it now. I know its hard but try to move on and dont dwell in guilt and misery. You will feel better after time.
i answered you question before ,fly strike is easily preventable ,your vet should stock a powder which you apply from April through out the summer every month,in the vets where i work and the local vets there are posters up on the wall stating fly strike is preventable,
i have a rabbit i use the powder and don't get fly strike, the rabbit is in pain with fly strike contrary to what the other answers say,
if you get another rabbit remember prevention is better than cure
So sorry to read of your loss. Today, I had my bunny "Sarah" put to sleep. I discovered her in her pen this afternoon, with a dirty bottom and inability to use her hind legs. I took her inside to clean her up -- and I was horrified to see all the maggots...I felt so ill. Sarah was my oldest bunny (10 y.o.) who often had a dirty bottom (her tummy was just built different and did not digest foods normally). The number of maggots was overwhelming, and they had already started to take over her body at the rear end. I guess it caused her "shock" and she became disabled. Yes, I feel guilty. But this evening I have done a lot of research into this, and now realize I had no idea this type of situation could come up. It is NOT even listed in the Rabbit care book I have!!
Sarah's bonded mate Tyler, is sad, as I am too.
Don't feel guilty %26 blame yourself. It is very common for rabbits to get fly strike even if you are a caring careful owner.Ive had 3 die of it.Powders to prevent it were not around then.I find that putting fly papers around the cage can be a great help.Go %26 get a new rabbit or guinea pigs %26 put it all behind you.Almost every person who has owned rabbits has had to deal with fly strike at some time. It's all over now %26 its time to move on %26 give a good home to another pet.

Please help - How long should a hay bale last for 2 horses? I think I might be overfeeding them.?

I'm feeding my neighbor's two horses once a day, and I'm taking about 4 days to use up one hay bale. Is this too much?
Answers:
It should take between 4 to 5 days for 2 horses.
It sounds like way too little. I would say it should last 2 days at the most. But, it depends on how heavy the bale is and how big the horses are and if they have any grass to eat or if they are just eating hay. If they have no grass, I would say they need more hay.
is it square bale or big round bale? for 2 i use half a square bale a day or 3 weeks for a round. all depends on breed and grass available.
if its a square bail i agree 2 days to use it up...depending on wheather or not they have another food source ie. grass.
a round bail takes a lot longer..i think the other persons estimate of 3 weeks sounds right.
It is possible for horses to overeat and become ill..but the majority..(unless purebreed i believe but could be wrong) of horses will be fine with a little extra food.
Sounds to me like you're way underfeeding them. again depending on the size of the horse.

Please answer?

I'm 14 and i keep on having thesee thoughts that i want a pet to die. One of them did, and now another one of them is ill. I dont know what to do. Why did i not stop having the thoughts after the first pet died. I dont know what to do. Please help.
Answers:
It probably had nothing to do with your thoughts.Imagine how many people might have wished for the death of Hitler for example, but he still lived unfortunately.
Adolescence years are weird, you can have weird feelings, thought,a lot of times unexplainable-the game of hormones I assume.Try to survive, don't worry about it too much, try to find activities that you really enjoy, have fun with friends-you will have more positive thoughts!
But only replace your dead pets if your negative thoughts are gone. Why torture yourself?:)
are you helping these pets die???? you need to get some help, sounds like you have some problems, good luck
Hi. You are having what are called "intrusive thoughts". Everyone gets them at some point in their lives. It doesn't mean you are a bad person for having these thoughts, and it doesn't mean that you have any sort of power (mentally speaking) to affect the death of a pet. However, if you have A LOT of these thoughts, it is recommended that you seek professional help. If left untreated these thoughts could transform into an obsessive compulsive disorder
probably just dont like your animals very much and dont play with them . play with them and let your love for them grow. By the way most teeneged boys have thoughts of wanting animal or their animals to die at some piont in there life . not a big deal but try to avoid it
I've been wishing my ex wife would die for about 10 years now. Hasn't worked for me yet. Maybe if you think about it though...
It's really just a stage and it may have been more worrying for the dog and you just Chanel it different then others. Don't let it get to you you'll pull through like I said it's just a stage. or you were experiencing deja vu. ;]

Please answer this Question. it is very important.?

Pitbull??

i was nearly attacked bby a pitbull.are all dangerous?
i love them...but im thinking about never getting one or supporting the whole end bsl.
what are your opions on these animals?
Answers:
That's a lie. All breeds of dog can be dangerous.
I have a pit bull myself. He has to be the sweetest dog in the world. He loves both people and animals. Whenever he sees a dog he starts wagging that tail and winning. The owners of the animals who let there pets come near him ( some are scared of pits because of the misleading stories)were all so shocked by how nice he is. For small dogs he lays down so they aren't so scared of him. He loves the little dogs the most. He loves to give kisses and loves my little brother (whom is 7) so much. He has never once shown aggression of any sort. He is such a submissive dog and only wants to me loved.
Yes many pits are put down because they are figthing dogs, but look at the big picture. Did the dogs ever ask to be fought? They only do what there owners tell them to because they are loyal dogs. Its not the animals fault it is aggressive. Its the owners fault. THEY make the dog behave that way.

If any case i wouldn't be walking up on any dog no matter what the breed. I dont care if it was poodle. You let the dog come to you...and if its showing you signs of aggression. (Growling, flashing teeth.) Take that as a warning. Call animal control if you need too.
they r not all bad i kno some that are really nice
I personally don't like that breed of dogs, they are named one of the most dangerous dogs around. I'm never gettin one.
pitbulls arent born mean.. they're taught to be this way. actually, statistics show that pit bulls arent as "vicious" as german shepards, chows, and yes even golden/lab. retrievers. so why does it seem like they're always in the news? because that's the way the media wants it! the media shows what it has to show to cause a reaction. you only hear of dog bites when a pit bull is the biting dog... they chose not to show when, say, a poodle kills a child... which does happen just as often as a pit bull biting! why? because that would mean that all dogs bite.. not just the monster pit bulls that are soooo horrible and evil! pit bulls are born sweet, loving dogs and make great family pets! a dog only responds to environment. they dont know how to be mean unless they're taught to be that way. any dog will bite if abused and owned by poor pet owners. personally, i love this breed and would never think twice about owning them!
here's a link to real information on dog bites and fatalities by breed
www.pbrc.net/misc/PitBullBook8...
here's another better link with information about temperment testing and results by breed
http://www.atts.org/
NO, no dogs are bad it is all the oner and because of the bad oners allot of good breeds of dogs get a vary bad reputation my grandparents have had pitbulls all there lifes and not even one of them has ben bad not even so they are great dogs :)
Personally, due to my experiences as well as facts regarding pit bull attacks which are available to the public, I would never own a pit bull. If I see one on the street, or one that is off a leash, I steer clear.
My personal experience happened a week ago. My cousins friend brought his pet pit bull to my aunts house. He said like every other pit bull owner I have ever encountered "Oh...my pit bull is so sweet and would never hurt a soul. They get such a bum rap." The pit bull was playing with my aunts dog. Everything was fine. All the sudden the dog turned. It mauled my aunts dog and then went after its OWN owner!!
After this...then of course there are the facts that apear in numbers. This subject can be debated all day by people who are 'for' or 'against' the breed. I say: 'the proof is in the pudding'. Pit bulls are responsible for 74% of dog bites and these are only the ones that are reported. The number could be higher!
No,all eren't dangerous, only a lot of them,I'm from argentina and i have two of them and they are very peacefull, good animals, very lovers whit my and my family.and they play whit my politic son anytime. You can get a pitbull .all depends of the form that you care of them.you never must put them in your house's back whit a chain alone.you must be like a mother and they will be nice whit you.
The pit bull was a fighter dog lonf time ago,but now is only a pet.Don't believe in that the tv says. They are exellent partners.Bye.

Pit bulls BSL needs to stop!?

does anyone think the pit bulls should go? because if you do, you are the most terrible person on the face of this earth. sur, theve killed many people. but does that mean we should make all the other dangerous animals die? tell me what you think. all animals are wild. they hurt, but we all KNOW for a fact that they are the most loyal things on this earth. if you hurt it, it comes back to you. you tell me, should we stop BSL?
Answers:
A few years ago, I brought home a stay pit-bull puppy and my mother was terrified of her. She's a beautiful dog, though bares her teeth when she is about to kiss you (that took some getting use to). Anyway, she turned out to be the best pet we've ever had. Annie is brilliant (I was truly shocked at her intelligence); beautiful; athletic; well mannered; good with children, cats, other dogs, even our horses. We've never had a problem with her. In fact, she's far better behaved than our border collie^^. Annie is one of those "once in a lifetime" dogs. I swear, sometimes my father loves her more than my sister and me! Anyone who condemns this breed is missing out on an amazing animal.
yes
pit bulls aren't the only dogs that bite...more bites in this country are caused by so called 'family dogs' like cocker spaniels, labs and chihuahuas
you can not blame the dog, because it is the owners fault.
if you train a dog to be vicious, it will do what it is trained to do.
i do believe the people who put their pets to dog fights should be locked up in prison. we all know dogs have teeth for eating as well as biting.
pray to God justice will be done to those who need it.

Pigs for pets?

Answers:
Yes!! we have 2 pigs on the farm right now. they are very very very very smart and loving! i love my piggie (Dilanzo), and my brother's pig (charlie)
they are awesome animals!!!
NO
YES. Pigs make great pets, I had one when I was a kid. They are very clean and intelligent animals.
Way cool! you can, just treat it like a dog. Give it a bath, a leash and give it some leftovers of your food. Walk it, its just basicaly like a dog. just keep it clean, and cool throwout the day. if you have a farm, it doesn't matter, because you have tons of space! but if you live in urban areas, keep it in the house.
(now you want to make me get a pig!)
So I've heard, they make pretty good pets. And even the ones at my barn, though they are for meat, seem like they would make decent pets.
They are smarter than dogs believe it or not and are clean animals despite the muddy pig "stereotype". They are affectionate and usually not aggressive. They can be housetrained and taught to walk on a leash. I've seen some pigs do some nice tricks as well!
A few breeds I've heard of making good pets are the Kune Kune, Vietnamese Potbelly and a few others.
If you are considering a pig for a pet I would talk to some piggy owners face to face or at least by e-mail. They can give you a better list of pro's and con's, good breeds, and give you the information you want.
There are pot belly pig rescues you can talk to. People get them then they realize its not as "neat" as they thought.
There are rescue farms with plenty to choose from if you decide it is what you want
http://search.petfinder.com/search/searc...
Pigs are intelligent and lovely pets. I would however get some advice before you get started. As their body make up is similar to ours, they can suffer the same health problems as we do. My friend had a pot bellied pig. She had to get permission from the council to take it out for a walk and then she was only allowed to take him certain routes. (something to do with livestock transportation laws apparently) Her garden was also a 'pig sty' (pardon the pun) by the time he had finished rooting around in it. lol.
Not in an apartment!
If you have a big yard in the suburbs, or a small farm, sure. I hear they make wonderful, intelligent pets. But they're still livestock, too.
I asked the same question, and after doing some research..they do make great pets. They are loyal and very smart. But you have to make sure that you can have one where you live. I called before I got one to see and they are not allowed in the city. Even tho they can be like dogs...the city sees them as farm animals. So it really depends on what your city will allow..but if they say it is fine...then you should get one from a reputable breeder. Those back yard breeders might separate their piglets from mom too early because they want to give the illusion of a smaller pig. And some will say that they won't get any bigger than 30 pnd's Well that is not true. Most pigs will get up to the size of 150 pnds. Some will be as small as 60 pnds. But those are usually the females. So do some research on zoning laws and breeders and I think you will be happy.
i always wanted pet piggies i think they would be good pets,i have seen people with them for pets and they love them they come in the house and everything i want to get one but i have dogs so i dont trust my dogs, lol.good luck do ur research

Pig help!?

So, I have a hog that I am raising for market. He has been gaining weight pretty good...however I still need to pack on quite a few pounds on him. Any suggestions on supplements or anything else I can give him? He is being fed a really high quality feed.
Answers:
Apparently he's like a 4-H project for the fair or something.
Unfortunately, you can't really make him pack on the pounds and still look great. But, typically, they do weigh-in before they show, and on a different day. You only need to have him weigh more on weigh-in.
Here's a trick for that...
Keep feeding him a high-quality diet. At the fair, there will be a dairy tent there somewhere. The cows still need milked so that they don't have problems. The milk is just dumped, though.
Make arrangements with one of the dairy cow guys there to take (or buy for a small fee) that whole milk. Just before the weigh-in, feed your hog. Then, give him gallons of whole milk in his feed pan. He should drink almost 10 pounds of it.
The next day he'll be ready for show and will have made weight in the meantime.
However, if your pig is naturally a runt there isn't a lot you can do. That's why they kill the runts a lot of the time.

Last week or so feed him McDonalds. Any more than a week and u might kill it.
I'm pretty sure there is no supplement for him just feed him treats and his regular feed. DONT OVERFEED HIM he will get sick.
I've heard dog food helps, just the cheap stuff

Pick Up Dog Mess & Not Horse mess?

You have to pick up your dogs mess which I understand, but Why don't people have to clean up there horses mess.
Where I take my dog there are horses sometime and they never clean it up so I assume they don't get fined as they can hardly get away with it if it's illegal.
I mean, mountains of feces!
Thanks
Answers:
Horse manure is probably the 'cleanest' manure you can get as horses eat a diet of grass and forage only - therefore unless you rub it over your face and eat it, it is unlikely to have any ill effects on you whatsover, whereas dogs are meat eating - and the majority eat a diet of processed, second rate food, meaning that their excrement is definately a lot worse.
Also, it is impossible to carry a shovel whilst riding!
And finally, I would like to think horse manure is alot greener than what comes out of your car whilst travelling...
Well, to be honest, how the hell are they gonna pick up a mountain of mess?
It's too much to pick up really imo.
They make bags that can be put on the back of horses that will catch the manure, you see them in the cities that offer carriage rides. Makes sense to me that if one pet owner has to pick up after their pet, so should the other...
Lol, that's so funny. Seriously, I can't stop chuckling at the "mountains of feces" you're describing. Perhaps while they are riding they just don't hear their horses leaving mountains behind them? Or maybe they are lazy.
Horse's poop way too much to realisticaly expect the rider to pick it up. The rider would also have to dismount on the trail and hold their horse while they do it which is dangerous. There is also nowhere to put such a large bag of poop. Most trails I know of, do have someone who goes through and picks it up every once in a while. Usually staff members or volunteers from a nearby stable. Otherwise the whole trail would be covered in poop.

Petsmart Vet?

How much do you think it would cost for them to see 3 hamsters, one has a tumor, one is having anal issues, and the 3rd one is fine
Are they really good vets, or are they bad
So, basically, should i take my hamsters to the petsmart vet, and how much should it cost
Answers:
You should be able to find a clinic cheaper than banfield.
About $15 and change. For Three new hamsters. Much cheeper.
Not all banfield Vets work with small animals. I worked at PetSmart and we had a vet come in and treat our small animals and birds. None of the vets at Banfield had been trained to work with such small animals (or birds).
Try to find a vet that specializes in small animals. You can also call Banfield and ask for an estimate if they were able to treat your hamsters.
Do you mean "Banfield"? If you do well then...
I used to take my cat there and they were a bit nosy - but that was probably just the one in my area- they were ok- i ended up not really liking the place because they had said that my cat was fine when he actually got parasites from eating canned food that had weird preservatives in it or something. I would recommend going to a local vet - or try going online and read reviews on a lot of the places.
I don't know how good they are but I know that they are more expensive than other vets, at least in California.
The one with the tumor will be expensive and probably not good news. If you must take your hamsters to the vet, I would advise you NOT to go to Petsmart's vet office. I asked how much they charged to clip my guinea pig's nails, and they charge $21 each! (for a nail trim!) As compared to my local vet, which charges only $6. Since Petsmart is a chain, they tend to charge outrageous amounts for vet care. I'd guess your probably looking at a couple of hundred dollars for them to see your 3 hammies. Call around and see what vets in your area charge to care for small animals. PetSmart is no better at caring for them than any other vet that will see them. Good luck!

Petsmart or PETCO?

Which pet store do you prefer?
I don't have any pets and I am interested in what kind of pets you have, what store you prefer to shop at, and why.
Answers:
I've worked at both and my answer is petsmart! Petco sucks. Visit both stores and you will see why.
Why do you ask if you don't have pets?
Don't buy food products from either one- they sell cheap crappy foods that are no good for your pets. I wouldn't buy live animals from either store. For toys, shampoo, etc. they are okay, but if you want to buy a live animal, find a local breeder or else a specialty private pet store in your area. For food, find a private pet store or holistic pet food store.
I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH PETCO, BUT I DON'T BUY ANYTHING AT A PET STORE THAT SELLS PETS, THEY ARE USSUALLY FROM PUPPIES FARMS, TRY TO GET ON THE WEB HOW THEY ARE BREED , I'M SURE YOUR NOT GOING TO LIKE IT.
Petsmart.
I have a pitbull and a yorkie, and in my opinion, petsmart has a bigger variety of toys and treats.
Honestly, I prefer Petco. Where I live, the Petsmart store don't seem to take well care of their animals. Maybe it's just the one I go to, but I have seen a dead lizard%26some birds/guinea pigs that look like they have blood on them. I have been disgusted with that place. I don't think Petco has alot of variety though.
I have a Cat but the picture is in Hubpages.com and if you search Smokey cat in their search bar and scroll where the picture of a rat and a cat together and you click on the picture and you see a Gray cat that is my cat. I shop at petco because I have a discount card.
well i like petsmart becouse they have a vet and they have really great service they train youre dogs for free and have a ton of pets for adoption
petco unlike petsmart doesnt have any vetrinarys or free training and i love the service @ petsmart
I don't shop at either mainly because they do not have any stores in Australia, where I live! Here is a list of animals and where I have got them from:
- 2 spoodles (spaniel cross poodles, dog) - Pet City, a big pet store which has a vet that works there 7 days a week
- 1 guinea pig - Pet store - specialises in guinea pigs
- 2 guinea pigs - Various breeders
I also have other various animals brought from pet stores (fish etc). All of my supplies for my guinea pigs are either purchased from my cavvy savvy vet or online. All of my supplies for my dogs are brought from my normal vet (food, collars). I love all of my pets although if there was 1 rescue/shelter within 5 hours of where I live I would have adopted. Saying that I would not swap my pets for millions of dollars!!
I have a dog, but for toys and treats I perfer PetSmart. Though I buy dog food at Walmart.:) It's nothing bad to shop at any.

Petsmart only sells female gerbils what happens to the males?

Answers:
Petsmart stores alternate with males and females. One store will sell only females and another (usually within so many miles) will sell the males.
most of the time professional breeders keep the males for genetics reserch or they will go to other breeders for new genetics to add into the family trees.
Pet stores usually only keep one gender of most kinds of animals o prevent accidental litters, especially after the customer buys the animal. Some other Petsmarts in your area may carry males and no females.

Petsmart in oneonta ny?

i need to know if they sell actual pets at petsmart. I don't think they do. If not, does anyone know a place where i can buy a pet in oneonta ny? I need 2 by 2 mice. Thank you
Answers:
There isn't a Petsmart in Oneonta but try Fin and Feather in Clinton Plaza. I don't know if they have mice though.
just give your snake hamburger!

Petshotel thoughts?

what do you guys think about the petshotel inside petsmart any good or bad reviews please share thanks!
Answers:
My GS stayed two nights there. I had no problems with petshotel at all. Only my GS did not sleep at all they said. They have a "bone booth" where you can call and they will bring your doggie to the phone so you can talk to them.
Also, you can pay $8.00 extra a day and have someone play with her for 30 minutes or pay $16 for doggie day camp. This is where they can play with a bunch of dogs.
they just lock em up
I think it is a good idea. I think that they should also have a pet spa to pamper your oet while they are there.

Pets Pets Pets?

Does any1 know how to make homemade toys and treats for your pets. (mainly dogs and cats)
Answers:
google "home made cat (or dog) treats" and you'll get a ton of sites with recipes... as for making your own toys- be careful. Things like plastic bottles, socks, bags, clothes, rope, etc seem to be the most common and pose a serious choking and/or impaction hazard if your dog chews them up. also consider what behaviors you will be encouraging... if you offer newspaper as a toy, your dog will think it's okay to chew paper it finds about... I've even heard of people giving their dogs old shoes and then of course, they get mad when fido chews up their Manolo Blahniks. as if the dog really knows the difference. You should never give a toy that resembles in any way anything that is normally off limits... and you need to always make sure that any toy you make is safe... dogs are creative and destructive LOL
I personally do not but I do know there is a couple of books at the library about it even doggie cook books .if you do have fun and share you experiences with it.
For cats yarn and for dogs a ball or stick.
Here are a couple that I have found have worked for my dogs:
- Fill a water bottle (cool drink bottle) with treats (smelly treats like liver), screw the lid on.
- In the summer a cool drink bottle filled with frozen water
- Newspaper, they love tearing it up
- A box filled with treats (again smelly ones), an idea from my vet was to fill a box with a treat, put that box in a bigger box with a treat and so on.
- You can get kongs from a pet store and then use a mixture of treats (various biscuits, small amounts of cheese - again recommended by my vet)
- Basically anything that can be fill with treats
Do not use sticks like someone else suggested, these can impale the roof of their mouth let alone the splinters.
I also have heaps of guinea pig homemade treats, let me know if you want them too.
i know how to make a toy, all you have to do is get like 3 old shirts or some kinds of rag and just tie them in a braid and u tie the ends really tight and you have a toy! :]
You have lots of great answers here so I'm not here to give you more. I just want to give you a tip you might not have thought of. Some of the answers you received suggest giving them things that started out as old clothes, newspapers, etc. Bad idea. Pets won't be able to tell the difference between the old ones that are OK to chew on or play with, and your best shirt or pair of shoes or today's paper. I'm sure you can see how this would be teaching him to destroy your stuff. This wouldn't be his fault but could be a difficult habit to break.

Pets on eBay?

why cant you buy pets other than fish %26 insects(as long as insects are advertised as food for other animals),you can buy a kio for æ‹¢0.99p-æ‹¢1000's,but cant buy a budgie or hamster.
Answers:
Because some people are inhumane to their pets. You can't get arrested for beating your fish or insects.. You beat your cat, dog, any other animal and you can get arrested. Some people just get pets for the completely wrong reason, why some just want to care for a pet and take care of it. More than likely that's why you can't sell other pets on eBay.
maybe u need to consider buying a brain on Ebay ha ha
You can buy off ebay, buyer beware. they tell you what you think you are looking for and show you a different picture.
It's illegal to mail any live animals using standard couriers. Only live bait like crickets and maggots are allowed through the post.
Same goes for ebay's listing policy
From eBay: "eBay urges its sellers and buyers to comply with all governmental laws and regulations. Since the sale of live animals and wildlife products is in some cases prohibited, highly regulated, or may cause harm to eBay or its members, sellers are restricted in their listing of them on eBay."
Also, it has nothing to do with couriers. My mother is a postmaster and people ship baby chickens and hives full of bees all the time.
rules are rules
Because they are livestock which is against the law.and rightly so too.

Pets in the house?

Am I the ONLY person on earth that doesn't have a dog in the house?
I was raised without them indoors, and find that people who do have them have 'animal odor' that lingers in their home, besides the pet hair everywhere.
Answers:
You're not alone. I have dogs and cats, but they are outside animals. I have a large fenced yard out in the country. I love my pets, but I don't like them in the house. People who live with pets inside don't realize that their houses have an animal odor. It's okay, because everyone's house has an odor of some kind.
not really a proper question.
but i think the answer is no...
People these days are used to spoiling their dogs, but some people have tiny yards, or their dog can't handle the weather where they live.
I have two very small dogs and a rabbit. I always worry that my house smells, but every time someone comes over they comment on how fresh my home smells. Maybe that is because I am a fanatic about having a clean house! As for the hair, I have non shedding dogs so that isn't an issue for me. I do agree with you that people with multiple animals usually have an odor when you walk in their house. I think it depends on the cleanliness of the person and their pets.
I believe that a dog should be part of the family and not just a toy to play with and throw in the back yard. Dogs that are left in the yard or kennel are not well mannered, usually are not socialized, are dirty and smell and they usually suffer from poor nutrition because you do not care enough to research the dog food you feed. What is the use of having a dog tired, chained or locked in the back yard. Why even get one
My house also dose not have pet odors!! I ask my frinds all the time but it is because I clean all the time and I vaccum at least 2 time a day
you are either an animal lover or not...if you are an animal lover, you dont care about the hair and the wet dog smell...i have to cats and i treet them like royalty...
I keep my dog in the house because he is a non shedding dog. He also gets groomed every 4 weeks and bathed every week. I have conditioning spray that I use everyday when I brush him that makes him smell good. My house does not smell like a dog at all but I am also a clean freak. I do know that some breeds of dogs just have a natural stinkiness to them. If you are interested in having a dog in the house, research your breeds. Mine is a toy Schnauzer, and he has hair not fur.
pet hair can really mess up a good lunch.
I have 2 shih tzu's and a ferret in my house and I have a very clean house that doesn't smell nasty.I also take very good care of my animals and give them baths and take them to get groomed...I was raised that animals in the house are dirty but I really like animals better than people sometimes...and my kids mess up my house worse than my animals

Pets 4 early teens?

i want to get a pet becuase my old rabbit just died:( do u have any suggestions? i could get a new rabbit but first im exploring the options. any pets from dogs to lizards i dont mind
Answers:
I have a gecko and he is very low maintenance. They are suppose to live for quite a long time as well. The one I got wasn't very expensive at all and all you have to do for upkeep is clean out his cage every couple of days, make sure he has fresh water, and feed him some crickets every other day. It's really an easy pet for any age to have.
Sorry about your bunny.
get some fish easy to take care of or maybe some frogs
How much time do you have to devote to your new pet?
not enough info to give youa good choice I worked and owned a small petshop and any animal could be good depending on time and activity level and knowledge is most important before you get teh animal
If you want something a bit different think about Degus, Chinchillas, Chipmunks, Sugar Gliders, Ferrets etc.
For something less out-of-the-ordinary a rat or guinea pig would be a great choice.
Whatever you decide, please make sure you have the time required to devote to the animal and the money to keep the animal healthy.
Keep in mind that your more exotic pets (ferrets, etc) require alot more than just a cage, food, and water.
Also check your local shelters and petfinder.com

Petco Or Petsmart?

What store pet store do you prefer? I've heard rumors that petco maybe be going out of business in a few years also?
Answers:
It depends to me where Petco or Petsmart is. Petco kind of reminds me of Petsmart, though, because they both are basically almost the same...in New Jersey, there are 3 Petsmart's and they are all the same, except one of them only sells reptiles and accessories for them. I mean, it's what I know for starters. It, also, depends on the price of product in each store. I'd usually prefer the store that cost less because I don't want to spend so much money on one product that may not be so useful afterwards. Not a lot of people can afford things in Petco and Petsmart...I don't really notice anything different in Petco and Petsmart. The only reason why I go there is because I want to keep my animals healthy, so I don't really care about which one is better. Petco and Petsmart both have the same amount of cons and pros, so I guess everybody has their OWN cons and pros towards Petco and Petsmart. I think they're both O.K, but I don't really think either one of them are the best. What matters is what food and products they sell that can be helpful for an animal. All 3 of my Petsmart's and Petco's don't really catch my attention or even interest me. I only go there for my animals, not for myself.
I would prefer Petsmart, though I only have a Petco close enough for me to go to .
I prefer Petco. They seem to treat their animals better, and at the Petsmart I go to, they don't want us to pet the animals...
pet smart i go ther all the time not that u would care
Petco...what?? Nooooooooooo it can't go out of business!!!!!! Waaaaaaaaaa!
They both have mostly the same stuff. I play one against the other... whoever has the cheapest prices on a particular item, gets my business.
Some things are exclusive to Petco, though. Petco sells ferrets... also they sell female animals. The Petsmarts, in my city, at least, do not sell female rodent or lagaomorph pets.
On the other hand, those are not the only pet stores around. I tend to buy rabbit food at the local feed store, as it is quality food at a much more reasonable price than either Petco or Petsmart. I buy seagrass mats for the rabbits at WOrld Market, because they are much cheaper there than at any pet store.
My preference is: whoever has the best product for the best price at the time I need it.
I think there is generally a better and cheaper selection at Petsmart, so I usually go there. But Petco does seem to try and help out more homeless animals.
I prefer small and independant pet stores.
petco all my hammies ive gotten at petsmart have been strangely and mysteriously killed by my cats and all the ones ive gotten at petco my cat was never interested in them like they had a smell or something that stopped my cat from attacking them.

Peta says having a pet is cruel and they all should be free -do you agree -with them ?

Answers:
I believe you are mistaken. PETA stands for, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. It is a group that cares passionately about animals. They believe (and I agree) that it is cruel to keep animals in cages, or capture wild animals and make pets or zoo exhibits out of them.
Your small pet rodents, like hamsters and gerbils, are probably for the most part, pretty content with the nice habitat you provide for them. If their home is kept clean, and they have plenty of fresh food and water, I see nothing wrong with that.
Caged egg-laying hens, however, are another matter entirely! That is probably the cruelest thing I can imagine! I buy all my eggs from a local farm a few miles out of town. Way fresher than what's in the store, cheaper, cruelty-free, and I know where they came from! I'm hoping to get a home out of town so I can keep a few hens of my own!
I really don't think PETA actually encourages people to turn their pets loose into the streets! Can you imagine the chaos and accidents that would ensue? Plus, dogs especially, have been domesticated for thousands of years. Most breeds now aren't really adept hunters, and they would have to resort to foraging to find food. Dogs rely on people to take care of them. They crave companionship. A dog kept on a chain out in the yard is a very sad thing.
Cats could and do survive in the wild. What happens to them is getting hit by cars, or eating poison someone carelessly (or intentionally, in some cases) left out. Man-made hazards! Put them somewhere with no people, and they would do fine. However, I have never had a well-loved and well cared for cat that was miserable with it's lot in life! Cats are smart enough to know when they have it good. Having their food provided, nice soft places to sleep, being safe, and getting lots of love and attention from their pet humans, lol. I envy my cats!
Fish can have it good or bad, depends on the fish keeper. If he or she is someone who maintains a meticulously clean tank, doesn't over-crowd it, feeds proper amounts of good food, and provides an environment with structures to explore and plants to hide and sleep in, then fish have a good chance to have an easy, fulfilling life!
I feel sorry for pet birds. Especially when they never get out of their cages. Birds were meant to fly! If you must keep birds (and they are beautiful), please consider screening in a covered porch or deck and creating an aviary. The closer you can simulate their natural environment, the better for them. Only adopt domestic bred and hand raised birds, help stop the importing of wild-caught birds. If they can fly around, perch on actual branches, and have a birdbath, they'll be much happer birds! Would you want to sit in a little cage all day every day, year after year? They don't want to, either!
That's what PETA wants people to understand. Just empathize with your pets! Treat them the way you would want to be treated if you were them. Pets with owners who know how to care for their pets, and do so lovingly, have a joyful life and make a wonderful companion. Pets who are mistreated, or only given the bare necessities to stay alive, are the saddest thing I've ever seen.
PETA wants people to treat animals with compassion. Raising them solely for their fur, cruelly slaughtering them for meat, keeping them confined to little cages, instead of letting them roam free as nature intended, that's what PETA protests!
Those few zealots you hear about who throw buckets of paint on people wearing fur are the exception, not the rule. There's going to be a few nuts in every barrel. Most PETA supporters are normal human beings, who choose to not contribute to animal cruelty, and to one degree or another, do what they can to improve animal's lives and rights. Many times they are also environmentalists, trying to do their part to bring back the balance on this planet. That is what PETA really is. People who want all living things to work and live in harmony.
If you are going to adopt a pet, learn all you can about it before you ever go and look at them! Buy a book or two from a pet store, book store, or borrow from your library. Find out what it takes not only to keep the creature alive, but what it takes to make it a comfortable and satisfied pet. Realize that dogs, cats, and most birds live at least into their teens or twenties. You are making a long-term commitment to the animal. Pets aren't disposable! If you don't want to make that commitment, consider fostering pets, adopting an older homeless pet, or get something with a lot shorter life-span, like a hamster.
Please, get your pet vaccinated and spayed or neutered, if it's a dog or cat. It's the right thing to do. It will make a better pet, a better companion for you, and it's better for the animal. The shelters are full of puppies and kittens whose owners never intended to let their pet breed, it just "happened." Keep it from "happening" to your pet!
Sorry my answer is so long, this is an issue I feel very strongly about. I support PETA, the ASPCA, and the HSUS.
I do my part, and if this prompts one person to do their part, or learn about a pet before adopting it, or get their pet fixed, I will feel it was well worth the time and space it took up. Thanks!
The animals are here to assist us. PETA is a right-wing organization, they go overboard just like every other activist group. My birds have a great life and they are excellent companions when I am alone. Many animals spend their lives in service to mankind. They have always been at our disposal. We need them for the free labor (feed is expensive) and they need us to feed and protect them from predators.
Many animals wouldnt be alive today if they were not pets -
suppose PETA had is way... well obvioulsy turning millions of cats and dogs loose isnt going to work (they would become feral and attack humans) so basically we would have to put most of them to death... and others would kill each other.
suppose PETA had its way.. and everybody was to stop eating meat (and eggs and drinking milk)- all the chickens (even happy free range ones) and all the cattle.. etc would have to be slaughtered.. becuase no farmer is going to grow food for cattle anymore and nobody is eating eggs... so no need for chickens.. and no where to put them... (Chickens cannot live outside in the winter in most places)
now certainly I would rather people eat less meat - but nothing wrong with eating free range chicken eggs...
true - there are alot of bad things in the pet industry - I wish PETA would protest PET STORES selling puppies.. (puppy mills) but protesting ownership of pets is never going to be successful and isnt in the best interest of animals..
they need to pick their fights better...
No I love and adore my pets. They make my house at home.
I think PETA means well but they are just a tad out of touch with reality. Most of the animals people have as pets now, have been domesticated for so long there is no way they can live wild anymore. I agree that all animals need to be treated and respected as a loving living thing, but to not have anyone ever have a pet is a little ridiculous.
You can't turn domestic pets out into the wild, they will not survive. Once you train a pet to come to you for food/water/shelter, even if it is an exotic pet, they forget how to hunt and care for themselves. However, you shouldn't be cruel to any animal, that much I'll give them. PETA sometimes goes way overboard on their thinking. I know they are against zoos too, but if you look at most zoos today, they are trying to protect endangered species and most of their animals are coming in so injured or sick that they can not survive outside of the zoo complex, so they are actually doing wildlife a favor. And the natural type habitats they have now are exciting!
Some of the writers above make good points. The animals that are kept as pets would die if they were not pets. And if you just released them all, they would wreak havoc on the environment until they died of starvation. Like someone above said, they need to pick their fights better. Bad pet ownership needs to be addressed. Cruelty, for sure. But how does feeding and housing a cat that would not even exist, and would die any other way, constitute cruelty? My cat gets attention, love, free food, shelter, medical help, and safety that it would not receive in the wild. How is that cruel? That doesn't even make sense. And many animals in captivity would not exist at all if zoos did not take care of them. They would be extinct. With all the REAL animal cruelty going on out there, it is silly that this would be an issue. It is like saying we should poison all our children to protect them from the possibility of being in an abusive household. Don't be ridiculous.
I'm a hard-core animal lover, but PETA sometimes gets it wrong. If all the "pets" were set free, there would be a lot of suffering dead animals out there. What we need to do is be HUMANE towards animals. We created their dependency on us, so it's our job to do right by them. My pets are my children and I treat them as such. I love them, spoil them, see to their daily needs, spend time with them, talk to them, take them to the vet when needed, etc. I still agree with many things that PETA stands for, but they don't seem to think about the bigger picture with some of their ideas.
This is one thing you'll never hear coming from PeTA and the other animal rights people. Animals such as wolves lions tigers and bears they all kill other animals for food I'd love to hear what PeTA and the other animal rights people have to say about that. About 2 years ago in NC PeTA 2 PeTA workers was caught throwing dead kittens and dead puppies that they themselves killed! I eat meat I support the right to hunt fish and I support the right to wear fur coats. We kill something everyday it doesn't matter if we're walking and step on something and thousands of animals die daily that crosses into the path on an on coming car.
While I admire Peta's zeal to stop animal abuse it's things like this that stop me from becoming a part of them. While I belong to several human rights groups and various other social conscience groups I can't get past some of Peta's thinking. I know that if I did not adopt my 3 dogs (and 1 cat) they would all have been killed. How is that socially acceptable or socially conscientious? There was no choice to let them be "free." They aren't called domestic animals for nothing. They depend and relay on human beings to take care of them. Wow, someone at PETA needs to stop smoking the ganja as much...
No they are going overboard but i dont believe in tiny cages %26 not real sure with birds in cages unless they are in the backard %26 huge!! China etc have tiny cages the animal can barely turn around %26 that is cruel %26 some zoos do need to have much bigger cages

Peta Question?

Is it true if you give a animal to peta that they kill the animal
Answers:
Yeah, loads of them wind up euthanised. Probably to prevent pain to the animal in the future or some other BS. It's horrible.
Peta is the freaking devil.
yes, peta = people eat tasty animals
Completely false. Peta does not take in animals, its a non profit organization for animal rights. Peta has several documentaries on animal abuse, but are DEFINATLY not for it, the complete opposite
No. But you really should try the animal shelter or the SPCA.
Peta really goes after abuse and experimentation.
The wise thing to do would be to check out their site:
http://www.peta.com/
Peta thinks that are pet dogs are better off dead than "enslaved" in our homes.
its NOT wise to check there site seeing they say al that **** but dont really support it
i asked this question b4
NO! I wish people would research PETA then all the rumors would be dispelled. As a matter of fact, I receive petitions and e-mail addresses to contact on a regular basis from PETA. It always involves contacting 'important people' about ways to stop needless killing of animals as well as animal abuse.
PETA has had to euthanize animals on several occasions and it was because they were found in such a terrible state that letting them live would have been a sin.
Yes, they do. They get animals and say they will put them up for adoption, and they euthanize them immediately.
PETA has gotten to be a real wing-nut bunch.

Peta euthanizing.?

is it true that peta puts more animals to sleep in the USA than any other organization? no adgenda here, just heard it from someone.
Answers:
PETA is a HUGE organization that handles the most animal neglect and cruelty cases. Sad but true...there are just some animals PETA comes across that just have to be euthanized. There is a protocol that ANY animal organization uses for euthanizing whether it be PETA or the SPCA or even your local animal shelter.
As far as PETA euthanizing the most animals...who knows. I don't have the numbers. Either way, it doesn't matter as each and every euthenization any animal organization gives is done exclusively under certain protocol.
Here is some extra info if you are interested.
http://www.peta.org/about/faq-comp.asp...
beats me. that organization is weired.
That is a lie. If you want to know the truth about PETA and what they do, visit their website.
Yes it is, when you call peta to come get your animals and take them to the pound, about 80% of those animals are put to sleep in their van before they even pull out of your driveway
I am all for the wellfare of animals, but peta is just a bunch of selfcentered crazy people who think they are right about everything when it comes to animals, when usually everything they do to them hurts the animals in the end
Did you hear about when the peta set free a bunch of weasels from a fur factory..they just let them out to run wild...yo uknow, most of those weasels died because they don't know how to survive. Now, again, im against wearing fur, and all that jazz, i don't wear leather either, but peta did more harm to those animals, and other animals in the wild by setting free 100s of weasels
if there is no home for an animal, it will be euthanized...that's why more people need to get their dogs spayed or neutered and start adopting from shelters rather than thinking they need a purebred from a dog mill...it's sad, but it does happen...
You know I heard the same thing also and did a search the other day. Check out this website..it has alot of info on PETA euthanizing animals, but keep in mind, these people do have an agenda so who knows if they are just exaggerating the case.
http://www.petakillsanimals.com/...
PeTA does euthanize animals..but way more animals get euthanized at dog pounds, etc.PeTA doesn't own any shelters, they don't have housing for animals, they can only adopt them out.60,000 animals are euthanized everyday...PeTa doesn't even come close to that number of animals euthanized.

Pet Theft Rings For Research - Did You Know?

Another good reason to keep your pet indoors or very closely supervised. Always good to educate ourselves as pet owners and animal rights activists and you do not have to be an extremist to want to be well informed. It is ignorance that always Class B dealers to continue to steal pets and to adopt them out of shelters to turn a profit by selling them into research. This is why responsible pet owners should think twice before just dumping the inconvenient pet off at the shelter. FREE TO GOOD HOME IS ALSO BAD.
It's the latest advance for us on animal issues in Congress.
Last week, the House approved an animal protection amendment to
the Farm Bill. This amendment would prohibit the use in research
of dogs and cats obtained from random source Class B dealers,
who may steal pets or fraudulently obtain them through "free to
good home" ads. It would also ban the use of live animals in
sales demonstrations of medical devices.

Answers:
That's why it's a good idea to microchip or tattoo your pet for id purposes. Legally, class B dealers can sell or the research facilities purchase any animal that has a form of permanent id such as a microchip or a tattoo. If your pet does get stolen by a dealer and it has this type of ID, they'll dump it first chance they get and more than likely your pet will make it home.
Not really a question - spreading propaganda. I'm far more concerned with the prospects of HSUS misusing funds they get for dishonest reasons and PeTA people and others justifying stealing dogs. They're more likely to do it *now* than dealers. People don't want a dog and give them away it's not any more fraudulent than those who say they'll take it and find a good home then kill it. The farm bill NAIS is *NOT GOOD* - not for any justification and all the animals now microchipped won't matter because new ones will be needed.

Pet Tarantulas?

I really want a pet Tarantula, but I need to know more about them for my own sake and to help convince my parents that they make good pets.. What can I tell them?
Answers:
I'll be honest with you- I'm not a big fan of huge spiders (any spider for that matter) but they can make interesting pets. In my 8 years of pet-store management I found 2 species that were calmer and easier to handle than others and were more suitable as pets:
Rose Tarantula
http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/g-rose...
Mexican Red-Knee Tarantula
http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reptiles...
Whatever you do, don't buy a bird eater. These spiders are large, fast, and aggressive and will only be a source of worry to yourself and your parents. Do your reading! Good luck.

Pet tarantula?

I have a pet Rose Hair Tarantula...yesterday while I was sleeping it dug a hole about 2 inches deep, 3 inches long underground, and 2 inches wide. It was inside of it all day. She is about 7 years old. Why is it doing this? It is the first time it has ever done this.
Answers:
Awww cute! :D

eeeeewwwwwwwww! idk but eeeeeeewwwwwwwww!
I live in Vegas and they are all in the desert...they live under ground where it is cooler and at night they come out to feed. They are my worst fear, hats off to you for having one as a pet.lol
I had a Mexican Red Leg. They are ground dwellers. Rose Hair are usually in the trees. You have me puzzled, too. Here is the address for the American Tarantula Society, 564 Boulevard (not a typo), New Milford, N.J. 07646. Maybe they know. I checked my tarantula book, but it did not have any info. Sorry.

well im not gonna say it from a pets point of veiw, but recently my dog passed away so we decided to get a new one. we went to the breders house to see the newborn puppies he had just had theyre about 7 weeks (picking them up next week! yay!) so he has i think 7 other dogs plus the 8 he just had, theres ben,maggie,abby,beckham,sophie... and i thinks thats it. Well they are rottweilers and you would think theyre were aggressive right, but not me, i had one since i was 2. but anyway, ben is a really big dog but he is one of THE sweetest you will ever meet. I was sitting on the floor playing with the puppy and here comes ben about 100 or more pounds, and sits right in my lap! like his butt was in my lap, i started laughing it was hillarious, theyre like big babies and they always want to be with you, they are the friendliest dogs ever it just depends on what breeder you get them from.

Wow, you have a lot of time on your hands, don't you?
Skippy loves to swim, although I would not say he is a strong swimmer. I find the mastiffs tire fast swimming. We used to take Skippy to the river swimming all the time but Quickly put a stop to it . One day I noticed Skippy sitting in the water. The water was deep enough that in a sitting position only his head and shoulders was above water , several other people were swimming and playing in the water around him. It is a popular swimming spot. Skippy looked odd sitting in the water and he was looking up to the sky as if watching the sky being very nonchalant , And then I seen it , little Brown logs popping to the surface of the water around him and floating down stream to wards the swimmers.
Yes he poops in the water, I was to embarrassed to shout out a warning to the down stream swimmers. I grabbed Skippy and left in a hurry . The next time was even worse . I took him again to the swimming hole and he was having a blast until I heard Melissa holler and Skippy was in the water and a large steam of brown water was rising up around him as he looked to be sitting neck deep in the water staring very nonchalantly at the sky. ,, he had bad diarrhea and a large area of brown water was going down stream from him . luckily this time Melissa was the only down stream swimmer so she quickly got out of the way of the on-coming brown tide , and that was the end of Skippie's swimming days .

Pet Smart or Pet's Mart?

Which is it- Pet Smart or Pet's Mart
Answers:
Hmm... Well out of the options you provided I would have to say Pet Smart, because Pet's Mart would be incorrect. the correct way would be Pets' Mart, because all pets use it as a store, not just one named "Pet" (as far as I know). Pets Mart would be a possibility if it was a 'mart' relating to pets. But that's not an option, you provided, ha!
Well enough of being a smart ***. I truly do not know, But I think it is Pet Smart. /=
One word - Petsmart
I know you spell it Petsmart but how do you pronounce it? Thanks for asking!
About a year ago they changed the name from PetsMart to PetSmart as the company has changed its focus from just the retail location to other pet services such as PetsHotel
It's both- PetSmart one word with a capital S in the middle
pets mart
it is petsmart
Petsmart. How to pronounce it you say? Pet-Smart.

Pet Skunks?

How much does one cost, and where can I find where the closest breeder to me is?
Answers:
put more info... where are you located?
http://www.skunkhaven.net/basicskunkcare...
skunks cost between 150-500 bucks...
------------------------------...
Basic Skunk Care
Many people who are curious or are looking for an exotic pet think that skunks may be the pet to choose. Skunks can be friendly, cuddly, trouble free pets; they can also be exasperating, costly, terrors.

------------------------------...
A skunk can be a costly pet, especially the first year. Skunk kits cost between $150 and $500, and spay or neuter can cost up to $250. Add to that the costs for food, cage(s), litter boxes, bed(s), toys, daily diet supplements, and other costs.
Verify that it is legal to own a pet skunk where you live. Many states have restrictions or special requirements, some cities also restrict keeping pet skunks inside the city limits. Don't buy a skunk without first checking your state and local wildlife and health regulations. Information on legal states is available on our Legal States page and at Aspen Skunk Rabies Research, Inc. Most states that do allow owning a pet skunk require maintaining state wildlife permits.
Buy from a licensed breeder or dealer. Dealers are required to have a valid APHIS-USDA license to sell skunks (considered wildlife animals), there are no state or local exemptions to the Federal laws governing sale of APHIS-USDA controlled animals. Most states also have state breeder/dealer permits that are required. Buying from "backyard breeders" may foster trade in wild-born animals and can affect further sales for legal breeders and dealers.

------------------------------...
Make sure you have a vet willing to take care of a skunk before you get one, many vets will not care for skunks. In addition, ask the question, "What would you do if my skunk bites you or someone on your staff?" Skunks have paid the ultimate price for biting.
Schedule shots for your new skunk, we suggest Schering-Plough Galaxy D, DA2PPv, or DA2PPvL+CV (for dogs) or Eclipse 4 (for cats). Off-label use of these vaccines, although not officially approved, is assumed to provide some protection against distemper and parvo. Other vaccines (Fer-Vac, Fel-O-Vax, Duramune, Vanguard, and others) have been known to cause adverse reactions in skunks or cause other problems requiring veterinary care. We recommend giving shots every two years, do not over vaccinate your skunk!
THERE ARE NO APPROVED RABIES VACCINES FOR SKUNKS. Some vets will suggest you give the skunk rabies shots, but this does NOT prevent the health department from taking your skunk if it bites someone. Do NOT let people pet your skunk on the face, head, neck, paws, or tail. ALWAYS hold the skunk's head and let people touch the BACK only.

------------------------------...
It is very important that you have your skunk neutered. This should be done between 4 to 6 months of age depending on weight and health. Failure to do so can cause behavior problems, can be extremely stressful, and can cause health problems for the skunk.

Male Neuter - One Day After Female Spay - One Day After
Vets should use isoflurane gas when doing surgery on your skunk. Surgical glue has performed well to secure wounds an prevents unnecessary scratching and infection.

------------------------------...
Skunks can climb, especially young skunks. Fractures and internal injuries can easily occur if the skunk falls. Don't think that you can leave food out on the table or counter if there is any chance that your skunk can get to it. Skunks have pushed chairs, moved boxes, climbed up the box to the chair to the table and been found happily sitting on the table munching on snacks left out. They are especially good at wedging themselves in a tight space to climb up several feet to somewhere they want to be.

------------------------------...
Do not use Lysol, Carpet Fresh, Fabreze, or plug in air freshener. Be careful with household cleaners! Many of these items can be toxic to any small animal.

------------------------------...
Prepare foods daily. A skunk's digestive system can not properly digest most processed foods.
A balanced variety of foods is best, vegetables, cooked grains, small portions of chicken or turkey, and small amounts of fruit.
Skunks need extra taurine and calcium. Try to use foods that provide calcium as well as other vitamins and minerals.
Get your skunk's blood work done. The minimum test is called Complete Blood Count and Serum Chemistry Profile. You can use that as a base-line to go by with your skunk, your vet should check the results and make necessary recommendations. A routine X-ray in later years is a good idea too.

------------------------------...
Skunks should be wormed with a safe wormer like Evict, Nemex2, Panacur, or one you may get from your vet. Make sure you worm your skunk.
Note: Wormers containing piperazine (piperazine citrate) have caused tremors, seizures, vomiting, and have been indicated as factors in several deaths, in skunks. Erliworm is a common brand of pet wormer containing piperazine.

Roundworm being expelled
------------------------------...
Nails should be cut about every month, some skunks require trimming more often. Use large nail clippers or nail trimmers for dogs and cats, be careful not to cut the quick, have flour or styptic powder ready.

Nails Much Too Long Cutting Nails Properly Cut Nails
The pads of your skunk's paws may get cracked or scaly (especially during dry periods) and may need extra care. We use Udderly SMOOth cream or Bag Balm ointment to help soften and heal the pads.

------------------------------...
NEVER leave your skunk outside unattended. They have no homing instincts like dogs or cats and will wander away, it is rare that they come back before something bad happens. With no scent glands to protect themselves, they are very vulnerable to predators.

------------------------------...
Health problems include rectal prolapse, seizures, diabetes, liver disease, kidney failure, heart problems, calcium deficiency, excessive weight, allergies, general mal-nutrition, etc. With proper care most of these can be corrected BEFORE the problem starts.

------------------------------...
AFTER READING ALL OF THIS ARE YOU READY TO HAVE A PET SKUNK IN YOUR HOME? THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE YOU GET ONE.
It depends on where you are...they are illegal in many states. You need to check with your city, county, and state regulations before considering getting one. You don't want to get one and then have it confiscated. There are many rescues out there and I could help you find one once you know they are legal to own where you live.
u can find them on the streets for me or under my car

Pet Skunks?

Does anyone know the legal side of domesticated skunks in the UK? Is it allowed?
Answers:
Yes you can keep them, same as they said, they are hard to come by, a good bet would be a zoo that's just bred skunks, but may not want to keep them, or rescue shelters. If you have them from babies they will love you to pieces, but they need a lot of work!! so no holidays for the next 20 odd years! It's a commitment, and also quite expensive. Oh and they don't stink at all! They'll only spray you if you injure or threaten them to all those mindless people out there who think that because they use smell as a defence they always stink!
Oh and to him above me! They aren't exotic animals they are actually found in the Uk nowadays quite commonly!!
no and why would you want to ?
I believe they can be kept as pets in the UK. Not sure if you need a licence though. I remember some time ago seeing someone on the net who kept them. I think there are issues with biting if they are not completely tame
Actually YES, you can have a skunk in the UK, although they are hard to come by. I have a friend who has one called Niff, she has had her scent glands removed and is absolutely adorable.
She was found in a house full of cruelty cases of various different species.
i think that they can be kept as pets
but
why do you want to - THEY STINK
lol......
Yes but obviously not very easy to come by but they apparently make really good pets. They are actually related to ferrets and are gaining popularity as pets especially in America where you can actually buy them from a pet shop.
Nobody in a million years would buy a skunk in the UK,they should stay where they come from.

Pet skunk? my daughter is thinking about getting a pet skunk and i havent really found much info on the net do

they make good pets?if you have one could you give me some info?good habits and bad habits or links thank you so much
Answers:
i have heard they make good pets if you get them as "babies" and of course get their stinkers taken out lol. they are suimilar to cat in their temperment but a lil more mischevious like a ferret.. i think it would be a cool pet to have :)
I love skunks! they get deoderiized(dont smell, cant spary)
They are like little puppies! Not like little lap cats! They are energetic and love to play! They need there nails trimmed, to see a vet, and need t obe watced when outside and in the house! NED to be played with! Need area to play out side, need to play inside! basicall cat and dog toys will do, for food, vegatables, and other stuff, would have t olook that up...
Its like having a puppy, it needs to be trainind, cared for, watched, cleaned up after and other stuff!
They can be good pets if they have been human raised but even de scented they smell. They also have very sharp teeth and claws. Remember they are a wild animal that was raised and bred in captivity.
Are you serious....
Hey why stop there? Why don't you go all out and get 2, so they can breed.
"It is not for me to wonder why. It is for me to do or die??"
Have fun training a "skunk"
I just can't get over putting in my new air conditioner and the first night, I was visited by a lovely skunk.
You're the type of people that make the world go round. Thank you for the entertainment.
ewwwwwwwwwwwww
I saw a site that said you have to be very careful because if the skunk bites or scratches someone, the animal can be seized and killed! That made me change my mind about a skunk! That would be terrible! I did a google search, but I don't remember the site's name. I just did a Wikipedia search and it says the same thing under the "rabies" section-animal control will kill the skunk to test it for rabies if it bites someone!
lol you seriously want a skunk weird
I'm not sure why you would want a skunk for a pet, but that isn't the question. Exotic animals such as this are not inherently domesticated. That is why you are not finding much about it. There may also be local ordinances against having such a pet.
Additionally, such animals are used to their natural environment and the enjoyment of their socialization with others of their kind. It does not seem that the skunk would be happy being alone, because that is not natural for them to be that way. I would advise against it for these reasons. I'm sure you could find an acceptable pet that is not naturally wild that might satisfy your daughter.
Others have posed reasons against it because of having to have them operated on to remove the "stink" glands" and the rabies issue is easily resolved with another invasive test. You will have to make your own decision regarding what you want and what is best for the animal. Not to mention they are not naturally trained as far as their bathroom habits, which is an important point because you would not want to confine the animal.

Pet shampoo?

Which shampoos and conditioners are the best for dogs. Which are best for pugs and labs? I would like to find one that keeps them smelling clean and keeps their coat nice and soft. Also, ones that dont irritate their skin.
Answers:
Which shampoos and conditioners are the best for dogs?
-
Well, the one I know from experience, is called Groomax Spa Dog Shampoo. They have both shampoos and conditioner, which is great! It makes bath time for your little fella more luxurious and is specially formulated because professional groomers would usually use this kind of shampoo and conditioner. It makes a dog's fur more rich, healthy, shiny, and smelling as every-day flowers. Each shampoo and conditioner comes in a 8 fl. oz. bottle and each has a scent of Vanilla Breeze, which makes it smelling fresh and great! I mean, you won't really smell the fragrance on your dogs for too long, but be happy that this shampoo and conditioner keeps their coat healthy! Overall, it's a wonderful product for most dogs, and if you want, you could use it on your pugs and labradors, but make sure they are not allergic first.
Which are best for labradors?
-
I absolutely do not have a labrador, but I went over my friend's house who has 7 blonde-colored labradors, and she told me that Vanessa's Dog Shampoo is specially made for labradors, and even retrievers. I looked it up online, and it sounds absolutely great and this is what it says:
Lavender Essential Oil is an antiseptic, pain
relieving insect repellent that works wonders to
balance out an oily or dry coat, reducing dandruff and fighting dermatitis and yeast infections as it offers natural deodorizing benefits.

Lemongrass Essential Oil is an astringent
antiseptic that helps to gently clean oily skin.

The aromatherapy properties of this formula
include calming and balancing, making this a
great formula for any dog that doesn't tolerate
a bath well. The benefits are felt by the bather, too!
If you are interested, you could always go here to order and add it to your cart:

Which are best for pugs?
-
I looked around online, and this is what I found. Go here because personally, I think this is a great gift for you dog that needs shampoo/conditioning: http://www.pugnation.com/shop.htm#pug_be... (scroll down where you find 'PUG BEAUTY'. Trust me, you'll see it if you look carefully. But, this is what it says for the shampoo/conditioning:
Vitamin enriched with pro-vitamin B-5. Demats and detangles. Rated excellent for use in hard and soft water areas. Contains natural anti-oxidant sequestering agent to help minimize buildup of trace minerals on hair shaft. Macadamia nut oil, almond oil, oatflour protein and cucumber extract for maximum skin and coat conditioning.
*These coat products for your dogs will not irritate their skin, unless they are NOT allergic, just so you know as a pointer.
HyLite is very good, I learned that from people who show their dogs.
A bit pricy, but you don't use much, so a bottle lasts. You can get it at some vets and online.
It's soapless, doesn't strip the coat or dry the dog's skin out - well worth the price.
Pugs and labs have very different coats. A lab, being a water dog tends to have a coat that is oily to repel water. Pugs you want to be more cautious about cleaning the wrinkles. On the lab at home I would use a bath scrunchy to make sure you get down under her coat or you could buy a rubber brush like tool from the pet store. I think both breed coats look nice and feel soft with an after bath spray like Mink Oil. It also helps reduce dirt But use a product like this sparingly or they will feel greasy.
I came across a line of products I absolutely love at a dog show a few years back. Specifically I use their product called Plum Silky. This shampoo is so gentle it can be used on puppies and kittens as well as adult animals, it smells great without a too heavy scent, conditions the coat and is very gentle on their skin. It comes in a 16 oz bottle and I follow the directions and dilute it 24 parts water to 1 part shampoo..it lasts quite a while. You can get it online or find a groomer in your area also perhaps by visiting their web site. I hate to sound like a commercial, but I really love this product :)
http://www.naturespecialties.com/...
If you're worried about irritating their skin, puppy shampoos are really gentle.
